Fu-Gen
Fu-Gen is a European renewable energy project developer and asset owner focused on the Nordics.
Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Switzerland, Fu-Gen combines deep industry expertise with a long-term ownership model to deliver sustainable wind, solar, and energy storage projects. With activities and teams in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, and Italy, and additional staff presence in Switzerland and the UK, Fu-Gen partners with local communities and investors to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future.
Situation
Fu-Gen previously managed its IT systems internally, supplemented by ad-hoc external support. As the company expanded, this approach became increasingly unsustainable.
Fu-Gen required an IT partner capable of delivering comprehensive structured support, proactive management, and strategic improvements across Microsoft 365, hardware, software, onboarding, and security.
Selection Process
In 2024, Fu-Gen contacted 10 IT managed service providers located in Switzerland, Sweden, and the UK to identify a suitable partner. Syntax’s experience in supporting clients in the renewables and finance sectors was a key factor in the selection process.
Over the next two months, discussions included:
- Assessment of Fu-Gen’s existing IT configuration and identification of areas for improvement.
- Presentation of Syntax’s security standards and service catalogue.
- Development of a phased cost model outlining support and improvement options.
Following the comprehensive evaluation process, Syntax presented a detailed proposal. The proposal included transparent costings, a structured support framework, well-defined service transition plans, and account management strategies, providing Fu-Gen with all required information to make an informed decision.
Solution
A staged approach was agreed, beginning with two key stages:
1.Support Transition – a structured onboarding process, with comprehensive documentation and clear communication with users, ensuring a seamless transition.
2. Proactive Support and Management – following the transition, the focus shifted to the provision of proactive support and management of IT operations.
Once the support provision was successfully established, Syntax implemented a series of improvement initiatives to enhance their IT infrastructure capabilities:
- Security Improvements – assessment of the existing security provisions against our Baseline and Enhanced Security recommendations.
- Enhanced Email Filtering/Protection Service, DMARC, and Third-party Cloud Backup – implementation of a service to 1) provide enhanced email filtering to block spam, phishing, and malware, 2) authenticate email senders to help prevent email spoofing, and 3) add additional protection against ransomware and other forms of data loss.
- Automated Build and Software Management, and Hardware Procurement – development of an automated build platform to easily and quickly deploy standardised managed laptops to new starters in any location worldwide.
Following the completion of these improvement initiatives, additional projects were launched to implement technical measures aimed at enhancing GDPR compliance and employee working efficiency.
These initiatives encompassed single sign-on implementation, privileged identity management, the establishment of SharePoint life cycle policies, enhancements to the cyber security response process, and shadow IT identification.
